Let's envision profections almost like a cosmic clock. The hour hand would be the year and the hours would be each of the houses. The hour hand moves along starting from your ascendant sign and ticks through the twelve zodiac houses, one per year.

Calculating Your Profection Year

Calculating your annual profection year is very easy. Using a profection wheel put your rising sign on the first house. All the other signs will follow consecutively. Look for the house containing the age you are now. That is your annual profection house. An important thing to remember is that each new annual profection year begins on your birthday.

So let's say that you are 45 years old. Checking the wheel we see that is a 10th house profection year, which as a cardinal house is likely to be a year of major occurrences and significant changes. This is however going to be true for all 45-year-olds. You’ll want to get a bit more specific if you want to see what your personal experiences may include, and that’s where your own birth chart comes in — specifically, the Whole House system version of it. The Whole House system basically puts every house at 0 degrees of the sign it's in so that each house contains an equal amount of 30 degrees.

Keeping with our hypothetical example, you have Virgo rising, so you would have Gemini on the 10th house cusp. Gemini is traditionally ruled by Mercury making your Time Lord (or ruling planet for that year) Mercury; imparting a Mercurial influence on your 45th year. Next you can glean more information about the year ahead by analyzing the natal placement of Mercury. The house it occupies in your natal chart will also be emphasized this year. So let's say it falls in the 2nd house. You'll probably find that you come up with a lot of great ideas to make money in your given career this 10th house profection year.

Next consider the aspects to your Time Lord in your natal chart. Aspects are like the energetic conversations two planets are having in a chart and indicate not only personal traits but lessons and opportunities for growth. Say that you have Mercury oppose Neptune in your natal chart. You might find that during a year when Mercury is your Time Lord you have magical insights and ideas, but you often have to vet them for their practicality.

Last, but not least, consider the transits to your Time Lord. Whenever your Time Lord is activated by transits moving over it you’ll be more intensely affected by it. Let's say a full moon falls right on your natal Mercury next month in this 10th house profection year— this might be more significant than if Mercury was not your Time Lord. So this particular month you might feel a lot more inclined to sharing your ideas and feelings with others.

Seventh House of Partnership: Marriage, one-on-one interactions

This year the quality of your communication and understanding in personal relationships will likely come to the fore. It may be about evaluating your relationships, and considering whether they are supportive and fulfilling. You may seek out opportunities to build new relationships and connections with others or become more committed to those you already have.
